COSPLAY

Stryker, Ermac, Rain, Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion, Kitana, Sonya Blade

The Start of the Mortal Kombat Project in collaboration with our Canadian members in Toronto.

Mortal Kombat
The Mortal Kombat franchise comeback in 2012 projected the idea of cosplaying as various characters in the game. As an objective I aimed to create a medium between design generations of each character.
Scorpion was the first character I alter-designed. His Obi (fighting uniform), and armor were sewn together for less parts in the cosplay. A gold silk was selected and sewn ito a felt backing which helped body insullation on top of spandex body armor. The obi was designed as a front fastener which was the flaw of the design because the obi would waise above it's intended centerpoint. Velcro fastner and an armor leather belt was used to fasten the obi in place. Since then the amount of etail is the only aspect change in Scorpion.
Scorpion being the forerunner of the ninjas proved useful because character designs for Reptile, Ermac, and Rain, all used back fastners, polyester-cotton backing, and double belts. The double belts are all unique with each head piece as an element that represents the ninja.
The character Raiden was based off the original character design upon the clients request. As a result, I replicated a karate gi and Raiden's tyle obi from Mortal Kombat 2.
Stryker and Sonya Blade were based off of rea-life SWAT uniforms. Their gun holsters were designed oer sex because of anatomy difference. As a female video game character, Sonya becomes extremely sexualized in the later installments of her design. Withe the simplification of her curren design is how we came up with our version of Sonya Blade. As conservative as the client requested, Sonya Blade respectfully fulfilled her role.
Prop designs were made out of dowel bases, coved with craft-foam, sanded, and finished with aerosol paint blends. As a convention rule all weapon replicas must be light and harmless when handled.
The Mortal Kombat collectively participated in Anime Boston2014.

Kinkaku, Ginkaku, and Bee-sama

Bee, Ginkaku, Gaara

Polyurethane Casting for horns, headband and 6-8" high collars

Canvas Board

Cloud Village Nin
These characters are based off of ninjas from the anime series Naruto. The character designs were not altered but the materials selected for the production of these cosplays were behind the success of the costumes.
CHARACTERS: Killer-Bee, Ginkaku & Kinkaku
WHITE VEST: Made from linen and lined with wired lined ribbon for texture.
BLACK VEST: Two part sleeveless vest, fastened by a short zipper. The 7" high collar for structure was lined with polyurethane foam. By inverting buttenholes toward the nece of the vest the collar proved to keep vertical, even in the most active movements of the character.
BLACK PANTS: Simple harem style athletic trousers
The props took a lot of structure focus
FAN: Linded with wooden stilts, foam board, and finished with feathers on top of felt backing and foam clay wrapped handle.
GOURD: 5 gallon water jug as a base and shaped with fiberfill, then wrapped with craft-foam, sanded, then painted.
SWORD: Made from canvas board and 1/4" rebar coated with cylinder funnel.

#3 Espadas

Tia Harribel and Neliel tu Oderschvank, empowered females from the Bleach anime. These designs were from the original character designs. The adversity faced with this project was solving the issue of making non-practical clothing fit like it was meant to be worn. The fear of exposure and malfunction was a trial and error faced while sewing the cosplay.
MATERIALS: Plaster, and casting frame. Silk for the belts, Cotton blend for the light-weight pants and jackets
PROPS: Foam-Core, Transparent plastic film, insulation tape, acrylic paint, and plastic gimp for grip.
This project is currently in the works for a steampunk variation...
