The Gam Theatre, The Arts Festival and the Dragon Boat races are some of the events that go on throughout the year. However downtown is not utilized to its full potential by its residents or the people that pass through on their way to Providence.

An environment where the community will utilize and residents will love their own city. A sense of pride can be created with the right combination of practices. By incorporating Recreation, Art and Community, downtown Pawtucket would transform its residents; inspire others to visit; and build other communities to connect their lifestyles

Pawtucket Pavilion Pawtucket, R.I., is known as the city which started the Industrial revolution; since the end of that era this community has fallen from grace. However, in the recent years, Pawtucket has turned into an Artist community, branching off of the prosperous Providence Artists. Downtown Pawtucket is the dead center of its school district, library and community centers. Unfortunately, all of these community centers hold their events indoors. As a solution the state bike path will become a part of the Pawtucket water front, and this opportunity supports education in the environment. Both YMCA and Boys & Girls club are within walking proximity of this site. Also, the RIPTA bus system runs through the site. With safe sky walk connections and raised crosswalks, pathways open up to a park around the bus hub that caters to all ages. Park themes consist of Astronomy, Greek theatre, Ping-pong, hopscotch and wall ball; as well as at shortened track, basketball courts and a skatepark, all of which include Historical Slater Mill and the waterfront.

Pawcatuck Watershed The Pawcatuck watershed in Wyoming, R.I. serves as a great flora and fauna habitat located within Arcadia state park. The flood of 2011 had drastically altered the landscape surrounding the Wood River. The goal of the project was to redesign it’s existing trail with nature; promoting minor footprints and rejuvenating the habitat within the river and its surrounding wetlands.

The promotion of outdoor classrooms brought the inspiration for this design. Nature reclaimed it’s land features from the man manipulated trail that existed during the flood of 2011. Therefore to provide low impact the boardwalk was implement over and adjacent to a series of pools that serve as habitats for plants and creatures. With the presence of a significant amount of moss; structures were built to promote more moss growth, as it defined the character of the trail.

John O. Pastore Center The vision for the John O. Pastore center is to redefine the generic State Office Park by emphasizing the use of recreation. Adversity faced within the site comes from various groups of people such as, convicted inmates, hospital patients, doctors, nurses and state workers. In order to maintain proactive activities on the site, we aim to design for passive recreation, and active recreation; in light of connecting this community in Cranston, R.I. We encourage healthy lifestyles and the practice of environmental awareness. The Greenway Alliance which aims to connect a contiguous bike path from Maine to Florida plays a significant role for our users of the site. The Washington secondary Bike Path is a link towards achieving that goal, which runs perpendicular to our location. In conclusion, we strive to connect the John O. Pastore center to the entire Eastern Coast of the U.S.
